How to Combine Scanned PDF Files

Scanners often create several PDF batches for one document. Combining them is easy once the scans are cleaned up.

Review each scan first

Check for missing pages, accidental duplicates, sideways sheets and blank pages. It is easier to correct obvious scan problems before a final combined file is distributed.

Fix orientation and blank pages

Use Rotate PDF for pages that were scanned sideways and Delete Blank PDF Pages for empty sheets. For pages the automatic detector keeps, use Remove Pages manually.

Merge the cleaned scans

Use Merge PDF to combine the corrected batches. Review the result from beginning to end to make sure pages appear in the intended sequence.

Optimize the final file

Scanned PDFs can be large because each page may be stored as an image. Compress the final document if you need a smaller attachment or upload.
